Auto Coverages, In Plain English
State minimums often aren't enough to protect you. Here's what each part of an auto policy does.
Bodily Injury Liability
Pays for injuries you cause to others in an accident, plus legal defense.
Property Damage Liability
Pays for damage you cause to other vehicles and property.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Required in no-fault states like Florida. Pays your own medical bills and lost wages regardless of fault.
Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist
Protects you and your passengers when the at-fault driver has little or no insurance.
Collision
Repairs your car after an accident with another vehicle or object.
Comprehensive
Theft, vandalism, fire, flood, hail, falling objects and animal strikes.
Medical Payments
Additional medical coverage for you and your passengers.
Rental Reimbursement
Helps pay for a rental while your car is being repaired after a covered claim.
Gap / Loan Payoff
Covers the difference between what you owe and what the car is worth after a total loss.
Roadside Assistance
Towing, jump starts, lockouts and flat tires.
Why the Minimum Isn't Enough
Florida is a no-fault state that requires only PIP and property damage liability. That means many drivers on the road carry no bodily injury coverage at all.
- Bodily injury liability protects your savings and assets if you injure someone
- Uninsured motorist protects you from the many drivers who carry little or no coverage
- Comprehensive covers flood and hurricane damage to your vehicle
- Higher limits are often inexpensive relative to the protection they add

Auto Insurance FAQ
What are Florida's minimum auto insurance requirements?
Florida currently requires $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and $10,000 in Property Damage Liability. Bodily injury liability is not required for most drivers, but without it you're personally exposed if you injure someone. We strongly recommend carrying it. Requirements can change, and other states differ; ask us for your state's current minimums.
What is an SR-22 or FR-44?
They're certificates your insurer files with the state to prove you carry required coverage, usually after a serious violation, license suspension or DUI. Florida uses the FR-44 for DUI-related cases, with higher required limits. We can help you get the filing and find the most competitive carrier.
Will my personal auto policy cover me if I drive for work?
Personal policies often exclude or limit business use, and they don't cover hauling freight for hire. If you use your vehicle for business, talk to us about commercial auto or trucking coverage.
How can I lower my premium?
Raise your deductibles, bundle policies, keep a clean driving record, ask about telematics programs, pay in full, and let us re-shop your policy at renewal.
